Peninsula Rifle Club

History of the club

The Peninsula Rifle Club (PRC) was founded on VJ (Victory over Japan) Day in August 1945. The club will be 61 years old this year and as far as it is known it is the oldest existing rifle club in the Western Cape.

Description

PRC is a full bore (7.62mm) target-shooting club which also shoots long-range .22-target rifle at distances of 100m, 150m and 200m to keep in practice. Full bore Bisley takes place on the military range at Atlantis at distances of 300m, 500m, 600m, 700m, 800m and 900m. The club has had two other .22 ranges both in Monte Vista, Cape Town, the last one closing in 1994 to make way for a prison. PRC became part of Durbanville Shooting Club (DSC) in 1996 when the existing .22 range was built next to the DSC range. Shooting of the club takes place within the framework of the South African Bisley Union constitution and rules.

The Western Province Bisley Association chairman or secretary has come from PRC for the last 10 years or so.

The club regularly enters 3 Target Rifle teams, 1 .303 team and 1 F-Class team during WPBA League competitions which are shot on the Good Hope Rifle Range at Atlantis every 3rd Saturday of the month.
